A babymoon is a vacation you take with your spouse before you have the baby – usually in the second trimester. It’s the last hurrah before baby enters your world. These next few months are probably your last chance for some real alone time with your partner for quite a while. Many couples indulge by enjoying the last bit of sanity in their own homes, but if you’re among the ones who plan to getaway for a while, here are our recommendations for you.
1. La Villa, Pondicherry, Puducherry
La Villa is located in the heart of the old quarter of Pondicherry called ‘the white town’ and is at a walking distance from the main attractions. This estate is inspired by its colonial past and gives you a taste of 19th century life. Old wood from levelled houses has been reused to create elegant contemporary furniture and local handicrafts are combined with the most luxurious and sophisticated western design. The food here is rich in flavour and the menus change with the season; enjoy your meals made with fresh and local products in the garden, beneath the arches of the villa.
2. Shalimar Spice Garden, Idukki, Kerala
Savour the scents of coffee and various spices as you take in the lush greenery of the spice plantations, the breezy weather and the lush landscapes – perfect for some soul-soothing. The rooms are unique because of their extensive architecture and interiors which represents the perfect blend in modern and traditional elements. You can explore the wildlife at the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, practice yoga in the most calm and serene environment and read books by the riverside while here. We definitely recommend Ayurvedic therapies and massages at this retreat to help you maintain the perfect balance between the four elements: soul, mind, senses and body.
This 10 acre homestay is located in Kapurthala and was built in the 1950s. This retreat makes for a great getaway for the entire family. You can enjoy a delicious breakfast spread under the gazebo by the poolside after a refreshing swim. Meal-times are serious affairs here – dining like royalty with multiple courses of lip-smacking delicacies. Our favourite space at Hamira would have to be the library which is lined up with a multitude of genres. The spa provides you with much needed pampering and leaves you feeling truly rested.
4. Neeralaya, Raison, Himachal Pradesh
Escape to this dream abode in the mountains of Himachal and get a taste of mountain life at its very best. Embraced by the mellow resonance of the Beas River, the verdure of the surrounding forests and the fresh aroma of the nearby orchards – this place is truly a feast for the senses. Right from its architecture, which is mostly recycled timber and local stones, to its pristine and scenic surroundings, everything about this property is about relaxation.
5. Munjoh Ocean Resort, Andaman & Nicobar Islands
A little paradise away from home, daily routines and the humdrum of everyday life. Luxurious, well-spaced villas with private patios await you with stunning views of the ocean. Nestled in coconut and betel tree groves, this retreat is just the place to wind down and relish the idle pleasures of life before the baby arrives.
