Raindrops keep falling

For most of us across the country, the monsoons are finally here!  When the rains hit the deserts of Rajasthan, when the forest floor in Coorg comes alive with wild ferns and orchids, when tiny rivulets in Sikkim flood with rainwater and when the air is ripe with the dewy petrichor of a post-rain afternoon – true bliss!

To make the most of this season why not head to one of these gorgeous hideaways where the beauty of monsoon seems to increase ten fold.

1.  Upper Deck Resort, Lonavala, Maharashtra

UpperDEck

Upper Deck is on the highest peak of Lonavala. Be greeted with pristine skies and panoramic views of the beautiful valleys and gigantic mountains – this sceneic getaway overlooks the Valvan Reservoir, Tungarli Lake and Rajmachi Fort. The rooms offer breath-taking views of beautiful flora and majestic low flying clouds. They make the haven look like its floating amidst the clouds! Seize this weekend to get away from the heat and enjoy the Maharashtrian rainfall and the soothing dip in temperatures.

2. Paatlidun Safari Lodge, Corbett, Uttarakhand

Situated in the foothills of the Himalayas, this retreat guarantees picturesque sights and heavenly smells. Paatlidun is located on the edge of the Corbett Tiger Reserve and is frequently visited by wild boars who like to dig up the grounds and the expert Naturalists can teach you to make friends with these furry creatures. Soak in the metallic standalone tub, listening to the soothing rain pouring outside while you’re engrossed in a great read. If you’re lucky, a peacock might treat you to a rain dance as you enjoy breakfast at Risya, the restaurant. You’re always surrounded by good company at this sanctuary.

3. Wild Mahseer, Balipara, Assam

Wild Mahseer is a 22 acre colonial tea plantation estate located on the banks of the Brahmaputra River. You can spend your evenings here sipping authentic Assamese tea, gazing at the rain pouring down on lush greenery in your lawn and on the beautiful Himalayas in the distance from your old world bungalow. They have 5 bungalows, including one exclusive Heritage Bungalow that is 108 year old and 4 cozy tea bungalows which are named after different processes of tea procurement. The vast range of activities that one can indulge in at this tea estate make it an ideal spot for tea lovers and nature enthusiasts alike!

4. Meriyanda Nature Lodge, Coorg, Karnataka

Meriyanda Nature Lodge offers peace and solitude to the wary soul. Located near the Hattihole riverside and Kotte Betta Mountains, this hideaway is too far from the city to be tainted by its dullness. The retreat has 9 wooden cottages and each of them are stilted and perched high above the ground. They overlook Coorg’s gorgeous landscape and acres of private coffee plantations; the smell of the wet earth and the plantations is simply heavenly. A warm coffee mug in our hands while we watch the rains enrich and purify the earth around is our aesthetic for this season.

5. Hotel Ocean Spray, Pondicherry, Puducherry

Ocean Spray is located on East Coast Road and is built around a lake that extends over 5 acres. This lake zigzags it’s way throughout this hideaway, surrounded by coconut trees and the imposing villas of terricotta red. The blend of colours is treat to behold after the grey dullness of the city and the only thing that makes this sight more beautiful is the rain falling from the skies and ending the woes of the summer.
