After what seems like a month of Diwali parties and celebrations, what we all now need is a little downtime to recharge before end-of-year festivities. A retreat away from the city is what we're thinking of - a getaway that involves appreciating the little things that city-life denies us. This week, we've compiled a list of our favourite getaways for some soul-soothing and reflection.

1. Hamira, Kapurthala, Punjab

This 10 acre homestay is located in Kapurthala and was built in the 1950s. This retreat makes for a great getaway for the entire family. With its old world charm and grandeur, Hamira transports you to the era of kings. You can enjoy a delicious breakfast spread under the gazebo by the poolside after a refreshing swim. Dinners here make you feel like royalty with the multiple courses of lip-smacking delicacies and you know what they say – the family that eats together, stays together. For those in your family who love reading, the library would be their favourite spot. The spa provides you with much needed pampering and leaves you feeling truly rested. End the day with the fam by the bonfire sharing laughs and making memories for a lifetime.

2. Cocoon Resort, Pangot, Uttarakhand

Set at an altitude of 6300 feet above sea level and surrounded by lush oak and pine forests, this 10 acre retreat is perfect after a long week of packed schedules. It is India's first cocoon tree hanging structure constructed using sustainable and eco-friendly materials and the landscape is made with local stone masonry. This hideaway also offers many activities to truly enjoy the abundant beauty around like bird watching, trekking or hiking to Naina Peak etc.

3. Shalimar Spice Garden, Idukki, Kerala

Savour the scents of coffee and various spices as you take in the lush greenery of the spice plantations, the breezy weather and the lush landscapes - perfect for some soul-soothing. The rooms are unique because of their extensive architecture and interiors which represents the perfect blend in modern and traditional elements. You can explore the wildlife at the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, practice yoga in the most calm and serene environment and read books by the riverside while here. We definitely recommend Ayurvedic therapies and massages at this retreat to help you maintain the perfect balance between the four elements: soul, mind, senses and body.

4. Atali Ganga, Rishikesh, Uttarakhand

An escape to this spectacular retreat by the mountains after a wildly hectic week is heavenly. The property offers 22 private, comfortable and independent cottages overlooking the River Ganges. Indulge in activities like river rafting, kayaking and mountain biking in the Himalayas or perhaps a spot of yoga by the banks of the Ganges will help you relax and recharge.Definitely try the Garhwali cuisine  served at the White Water Café which has both an indoor and outdoor seating area - we bet you will choose the outdoors for those gorgeously stunning views of the valley.

5. Neeralaya, Raison, Himachal Pradesh

Set by the splendorous Himalayas, this retreat is situated on the banks of the Beas. It has pristine lawns, fruit laden trees and exotic flowers which are the perfect conduit to a world where there are no responsibilities or deadlines. Days spent here feel like right out of a fairytale - indulging in picnics and catching up on some light reading as the day passes you by.

So where you will you choose to recharge this week?
